A learning pathway delivering core skills and variety of experience

Established in 2015, this pioneering programme brings together the know-how of partners that include Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council, Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council , Coleg Y Cymoedd, Ebbw Vale Enterprise Zone, Merthyr College , Tydfil Training and leading names in local industry – creating a 2-3 year learning pathway that will see apprentices rotate through a number of different employers, broadening the learner’s experience as they develop the core skills needed to achieve a high-value apprenticeship within the STEM areas of Manufacturing and Engineering.

The programme has already proven itself to be a leading light in providing a platform for young people to access apprenticeship opportunities in the region – winning the ‘Large and Macro Employer of the Year’ Award in both 2019 and 2021, showing an outstanding commitment to support both apprentices and their employees.

Award-winning achievements and results

A key feature of the programme centres on Aspire’s expert management team, who work closely with local colleges and apprenticeship learning providers to ensure a seamless learning experience and the most successful outcomes – and that success has seen 100+ apprentices placed in over 25 manufacturing companies where they have all successfully progressed into employment or gone onto Further Education.

Venture is proud to be supporting and championing a pioneering programme that offers an exceptional learning experience, together with the strongest career prospects – and a rewards package that pays above the minimum wage (with apprentices employed by Aspire for the duration of the programme).

On a day-to-day basis as an apprentice utilities engineer at PCI Tredegar, my role is to keep up with all scheduled maintenance, carry out any unplanned maintenance that may occur such as breakdown of equipment and deal with any third party contractor visits. I found out about PCI through the Aspire Apprenticeship Scheme and they informed me of the apprentice role that was available. I am really enjoying my time at PCI and have met some amazing people. I am especially enjoying learning new skills that will hopefully help me to complete my apprenticeship.
